Grand Central Rail Station
Grand Central Rail Station

Birmingham has become one of the most visited cities and is England’s second largest with dynamic diversity and culture. These aspects have propelled the city into an international destination for events, festivals, high quality shopping, award winning restaurants and an active night life. A short stay holiday break here can never be dull. From the comfort of your own serviced apartment get a combination of art, comedy festivals, orchestra, and self prepared cuisine from your kitchenette and read literature from your living room away from home.

While in Birmingham, the new Grand Central station is hard to miss, its an upgrade of the old New Street station it opened its doors in September 2015 after a costly superb refurbishment estimated to be over £100 million . Along with the original Birmingham New Street station, the new mall has an amazing glass atrium roof as a centerpiece that covers a combination of over 60 high quality fashion brand stores, cafes, restaurants and department stores. This has made Birmingham an investment hotspot with its world class status. Being one of the most spectacular places in the city of a thousand trades, Grand Central opens as early as 6.30am and closes at 11pm with most restaurants open until closing time. With 24 hour parking that is charged hourly and close to 500 parking spaces with great security, shopping and having fun at the station is relaxing and convenient.

House of Trains

House of Trains

We are very much aware that holiday rental short term stay business is driven fundamentally on moderately priced transport and also accessible transport links.

With this in mind I have chosen Railway Station/Terminus“House of Trains” as a blog subject. You may ask what has this to do with a holiday property rental website like Ok directly very little but indirectly a lot. Because in all the bigger cities where we have short stay self catering apartments you’ll find our Accommodation Partners have located reasonable close to railway or bus transportation.

Coupled with the fact this writer is fascinated with Railway Stations. Some are hundreds of years old and are sited in prominent locations in our larger towns and cities. Birmingham New Street and Moore Street, Victoria Street London, Heuston Dublin, Garde Noir Paris to name but few.

From an architectural point of view some might look a little antiquated andgrim. But most have impacted some way on the lives of people that journey daily through them. Heading for that holiday in the sun, or maybe that first job interview or parting from a long term relationship. Train Stations can be a place relations have they first outing or indeed there last. So emotional they are be places of sadness and happiness in equal measure.

Economically and commercially they are a vital part of any local and national economy. The train network has competed with old and new forms of transport and has always managed to hold its own competitive position in same.

Birmingham New Street is at present undergoing a major reconstruction redevelopment program. The first section was completed and opened in April 2013 and marked the halfway milestone of the project. It is due for completion in September 2015 during all this trains are still running on time at one of the busiest railway station in the UK. We have self catering apartments within walking distance of this new magnificence building.

The city boasts a packed live entertainment program at theaters, concert venues and comedy clubs. Add to this a fantastic selection of restaurants and bars in the city and you’ll discover why visitors come back to Birmingham time and time again.

Birmingham is also the gateway to the West Midlands. Celebrating everything English, from Shakespeare’s country and the rolling hills of the shires, to the iconic World Heritage site at Ironbridge, the Black Country living museum, Warwick Castle and even a round of golf at the world renowed De Vere Belfry.

Birmingham Moor Street Station

Moor Street is Birmingham second busies railway station. Since Chiltern Railways took over the London Marylebone service Moor Street has become a Mainline Station The original station was built in 1909 and was a goods terminus for many years. There were stages in its history that it was closed. But it fortunately was reopened and restored to its former glory. If you’re staying with one of our self catering partners in Birmingham this station concourse is worth a visit. It is only a stone’s throw from the Bull Ring Shopping Complex. The restoration kept the station in it old world style. The photos show the steel studded roof trusses with glass lined arched roof. Features that was very common in its original era. The renovation work cost in the region of £11 million.

Santa Justa Station Seville

It is a very big complex located on the Avenue of Kanas City with ample car parking spaces. Inside the station they are several cafes and gift shops and currency exchange Office. As with most large stations there is a huge inner arrival and departure area. Escalators lead down to the platforms. From here trains can be accessed for travelling to Madrid and further afield. So if you choose to stay in one our magnificence self catering apartments in Seville remember this beautiful city can be reached by air, rail or road.

Heuston Train Station Dublin

It is otherwise known as Dublin Heuston formerly named Kingsbridge Station. It is one of the two large train stations in Dublin the capital of Ireland. Heuston serves the south, southwest and west of Ireland. It is operated by Iarnrod Eireann the national train operator serving the south, southwest and west. It is operated by Iarnród Éireann (IE), the national railway operator. The building was completed in 4 August 1846 as the terminus and it was the national headquarters at the time of the Great Southern and Western Railway. St Martin in the Bull Ring

In Birmingham, It is one of the most ancient and contemporary buildings in Birmingham built in 1873. It is designed by Alfred Chatwin, from Birmingham, who also worked on the Houses of Parliament. However, the real church is much more older than this and its there from the 12th Century – since 1290 on this site. There may be more simple and holy place of worship even during Saxon times. Again as the time passes this building refurbished again in 2000 and few years back in 2009, a tea lounge , healing center and rooms were me made available to hire. Few things to notice there :
