Greek sophistication by Anne Mapesa
The beautiful Mediterranean country of Greece is a great holiday destination with plenty of locations for sun bathing and exploring. The summers are warm and the winters mild. Friends who recently visited Greece for the summer recalled to me their Greek experience. Initially they were not sure how they would communicate with the Greeks speaking residents but to their surprise, most if not all of them converse in good English. While a few visitors from Europe can speak Greek, those who don’t would still fit right in. Spending and counting money in Greece was not an issue at all for my friends since the euro is local currency and most bars, restaurants and shops accept credit card payments though they carried cash just in case.
After settling in to their beautiful self catering accommodation near the beach they walked around the bright blue watered coastline to catch a breeze and mingle with the friendly Greek culture. There is no trouble finding a market in every corner from which fresh produce and souvenirs are sold. Supplies to make your meal back at your suite with clarification on recipes from the pleasant sellers. Learn how many uses there are for olive oil which is staple, to a decent different way to cook lamb and fish, beverages you will be glad to know exist and a holiday you will always cherish.
Greece is beautiful and picturesque; from the bright blue watered beaches, whitewashed villages, lively seaside towns to the exquisite well preserved ancient sites full of history. Athens tends to top everyone’s itinerary for the ancient sites, pyramids, storied past, delicious cuisine and active night life.. It boasts of good international hotels private self catering apartments, shopping brands and unique local products from jewellery, spices to art. The Greek Islands like Rhodes have wonderful self-catering luxury villas.
While in Greece, it is hard not to tour the eye catching and breathe taking sites. The archaeology has the Cyclades of over 2000 fascinating islands including the famous wonderful Santorini and Mykonos islands. Along the mainland’s west coast are the Ionian Islands with charming Greek villages, green landscapes and beachfronts.
Cafes and night clubs fill the streets of the town of Thessaloniki for young and old revelers, while in Mykonos the maze of narrow streets is accentuated by luxurious villas and family friendly self catering accommodation. You will never be disappointed with a self-catering holiday on a Greek Island where you can choose a different restaurant to dine in each night. When and where suits you.
My friends gave Greece a big score and put it on their plans same next year. Clearly the impression will last forever.
